John Griffiths, painter, age 21, born at Birmingham, County of Warwickshire; Enl.19Sep1872 in Royal Engineers as Sapper; served at St Helena 14May1875-12Jan1876, Cape of Good Hope 13Jan1876-01Apr1882, engaged in the Kaffir War of 1877-78 with 7th Coy; awarded medal with clasp 1877-78 (only 28 medals to Royal Engineers with this clasp); Disch.16May1882.

With Attestation papers including service record and medal roll.
