The 99th Regt of Foot (The Lankarshire Regt) 1841-1857, arrived at Sydney in February 1843 and then to Van Diemen's Land. In August 1844 it returned to Sydney and in May 1845 two companies were sent to New Zealand where they took part in the assault on 1 July 1845 against Ohaiani Pah with 14 men killed and 4 officers and 27 men wounded. The detachment was also present at the assault and capture of Ruapekapeka on 10 February 1846. Reinforcements were sent from Sydney and the detachment engaged the rebels many times before returning to Sydney in August 1847.
