VALENS, (A.D. 364-378), gold solidus, Heraclea mint, issued 364, 1st Officina, (4.39 g), obv. pearl diademed, draped and cuirassed bust to right of Valens around DN VALENS P F AVG, rev. Valens standing facing head to right, holding labarum with chi-rho symbol and Victory, RESTITVTOR REIPVBLICAE around, SMHA. in exergue (S.4104, RIC 1b, Depeyrot 5/2). Light surface graffiti, otherwise good very fine and rare.
