Group of Six: 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Pacific Star; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45; Greece, Commemorative Medal for the War of 1940-41. 19776 J.T.G.Rockey. on first five medals, last medal unnamed as issued. Named medals impressed. Son's wife. Trio: War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45; Service Medal of the Order of St John - bar - Five Year's Service (second type). John Rockey born 1874 at Launceston, Cornwall, England; 1891 Boy on Impregnable Training Ship for Boys, Plymouth; 1901 Leading Seaman, residing at Sailors Rest; 1911 RN Petty Officer 1st Class, resident at Stoke, Devonport, England; 21Mar1912 on loan to RAN, LS&GC Medal issued on transfer; served Cerberus, Destroyers, Pioneer; 16Apr1914 invalided out of Navy in Sydney. CPO Writer John Thomas George Rockey, born Pymble, NSW, 10Apr1914; Enl.30May1933 for 12 years as P/Writer; 31Dec1940 Red Cross reports POW in Java camp; worked on Burma Railway; 31Dec1941 records show POW ex 'Perth' 2/3/42; 10Oct1945 arrived in Australia; Disch. 09Jan1946 ex HMAS Rushcutter. HMAS Perth was torpedoed by the Japanese on the night of Feb 28 - 1 Mar 1942 during the Battle of Sunda Strait between Sumatra and Java. More than half of the crew died at sea, 106 died in captivity and 214 survived the POW camps to return home.
