MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), gold stater, (8.54 grams), Lampsacus mint, issued c.323-317 B.C., obv. head of Athena to right in crested Corinthian helmet, hair flowing and snake on helmet, rev. Nike standing to left, holding wreath in outstretched hand, in left field a buckle, and lower left **LW* monogram, to right **ALEXANDPOU*, (cf.S.6702; Price 1374 (p.214), BMC 1374a-b, M.621, ANS has an example). Ex jewellery with some smoothing and filling, otherwise extremely fine, well centred, with traces of mint bloom, a scarce variety.
