SICILY, Syracuse, Hieron II, (275-215 B.C.), gold drachm or hundred litrai (4.25 gm), struck circa 275-263 B.C., obv. head of Persephone left with long flowing hair, wearing wreath of grain ears, single-pendant earring, and necklace, wing behind, rev. charioteer, holding kentron in right hand, reins in left, driving fast biga left, A below horses, **IERWNO‰ in exergue. (cf.S.983, BMC 512). Double struck on the reverse, otherwise extremely fine and rare.
