M. HERENNIUS, (108-107 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.71 grams), obv. Piety head to right, behind PIETAS, rev. Catanaean running right bearing father on shoulders, M.HERENNI on left, control mark C. to right, (S.185 [£75 VF], Cr.308/1b, Syd.567a, RSC Herennia 1a). Lightly pitted, otherwise very fine.

This piece commemorates the exploits of the Catanian brothers Amphinomus and Anapis who famously carried their parents to safety during an ancient eruption of Mount Etna.
