C. RENIUS, (138 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.80 grams), obv. Roma helmeted head to right, X behind, rev. Juno Caprotina in a biga of goats, C.RENI below, ROMA in exergue, (S.108, Cr.231/1, Syd.432, RSC Renia 1). Toned, very fine or better and scarce.

Ex Charles E. Weber collection and Triton VII auction, lot 1357 (part). With detailed collector’s tickets. This family was probably from Lanuvium where Juno Caprotina was long worshipped. This is one of the earliest denarii that makes direct reference to family history.
