SICULO-PUNIC, (c.350-320/315 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.070 grams), obv. wreathed head of Persephone to right wearing triple-pendant earring and necklace, thymiaterion before, dotted border, rev. horse standing right before a palm tree, Nike before placing wreath on horse's head, caduceus before horse, Punic 'HB' below, (S.6430 [p.595], Jenkins, SNR 56, 96 - 4 [this coin, dies 033/R87], Gulbenkian 367 [same obverse die], SNG Lockett 1041 [this coin], SNG Lloyd 1622 [same obverse die], Paris, De Luynes 1444 [same obverse die]. Lightly toned, nearly extremely fine, attractive, and rare.
Ex Dr. Stephen Mulligan Collection, Noble Numismatics Sale 64 (lot 2431), previously from the P. Mathey Collection and R.C. Lockett Collection, sold Glendining's London, 25th - 28th March 1955 (lot 946 realised ?90) and Triton II Auction Sale Nov. 30 - Dec. 1, 1998 (lot 289 illustrated). Jenkins records only four examples of this coin type from these dies; this piece is number four in that listing.
