SOLD $30

SHAH JAHAN I, (A.H. 1037-1068, A.D. 1628-1658), silver rupee, round issues, Nagar mint, A.H.1042, regal year 5, (type KM.227.X). Fine.

Singhal notes that a rupee dated 1043/7 is described and illustrated on page 80 of JNSI, volume V. As regards the identification, the author Capt. Tarapore states that many places have been called Nagar. Nagar is a short term for Ahmadnagar and this coin Singhal believes was struck from the Ahmadnagar mint although it bears the name of Nagar only.
