COMMODUS, (A.D. 177-192), AE dupondius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 178-180 (10.2 grams), obv. radiate head of Commodus to right, around L AVREL COMMODVS AVG TR P V, rev. Virtus seated right with spear and parazonium, around VIRTVS AVG IMP III COS II P P, S C across field, (S.-, RIC 292, C.961, BMC 1724). Some green patination, strong portrait, weak on reverse legend, otherwise nearly very fine and scarce.

Ex. Sir Charles Oman collection, Christie's, February 7, 1968 (lot 195 part) and a duplicate from the Boston Museum of Fine Arts with their distinctive ticket.
