ANGLO SAXON, Offa (757-796), silver penny, Group II, c.787-792, Canterbury mint, obv. +EALHMVND around bust of Offa to right, rev. OFFA REX cross of lobes with cross pattee of pellets in centre and trefoil-headed sceptre on each limb, (S.905, N.299, Blunt 'Anglo Saxon Coinage' essays to Stenton, type 43 same dies). Surface slightly pitted, otherwise nearly very fine and extremely rare.

The curious use of the moneyer's name on the obverse with the bust of Offa is most unusual and occurs on only a few issues of Offa's extensive range of types in his coinage.
