SICILY, Syracuse, (c.485-479 B.C.), silver didrachm, (7.588 grams), obv. naked rider, on horse prancing to right, leading a second horse on his far side, rev. **SUR AKO SION around to right, head of Artemis-Arethusa to right, hair turned up behind under diadem of beads, three dolphins around, (S.915 [£450], Boehringer 53 same dies (obverse 28/reverse 53 dies), Winterhur 891, Naville sale 6 [lot 458 same dies]). Die flaw as a bulge on head on reverse as usual for this die, otherwise very fine and very rare.

Boehringer notes only 8 specimens from these dies.
