SICILY, Syracuse, (c.460-440 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.436 grams), obv. slow quadriga driven to right by male charioteer, Nike flying left crowning charioteer, ketos (sea-serpent) to right in exergue, rev. **SURAKOSI O N before and around, head of Artemis-Arethusa to right, hair bound up behind head with a cord, four dolphins around swimming clockwise, (cf.S.925 [£950], Boehringer 582 [obverse die V289, reverse die R395], Boston 380 [same dies], SNG Munich 1027 [same dies], Jameson 762a [same dies, Pl.XLVII]). Striking edge cracks, surface roughness, very fine or better and very scarce.

Boehringer notes 9 specimens from these dies, only a few in private collections.
