MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), AE 17 (5.42 grams), uncertain Macedonian mint, issued 336-323 B.C., obv. head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin with dotted border, rev. a club, **ALEXAND[ROU]* between, bow and bowcase below, (cf.S.6739, Price 266, BMC 266a-d). Attractive black patination, very fine/nearly extremely fine and rare in this condition.

This is regarded as the first issue type without any letters, monograms or symbols of subsequent issues.
