STEPHEN, (1135-1154), silver penny, Watford type, issued c.1136-1145, BMC i, probably Mack 15a, Hastings mint, obv. around STIEFNE...; rev. [RODBERT]:ON:hA (probably the moneyer Rodbert with traces visible, of Hastings), (S.1278, N.873). Half the legend smooth, otherwise nearly fine and very rare.

Ex William J. Conte Collection. The reverse die from Hastings shows traces of the RODB of the moneyer's name and this moneyer known only with the HA abreviation of Hastings.
