STEPHEN, (1135-1154), silver penny, Watford type, issued c.1136-1145, BMC i, possibly Mack 4b, Bristol mint, obv. inner circle around [S]TE[ ...; rev. ..RDANVS.. (Gurdan of Bristol?), (S.1278, cf.N.874). Fine and very rare.

The reverse legend in clear for the above letters indicated. This piece has a portrait that suggests links to David I of Scotland (S.5004) or a northern mint. The moneyer full name in clearly uncertain and has no direct link to any issues noted by Mack in BNJ Vol.XXXV.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
