Parthia, Kingdom of, Parthamaspates (c.A.D. 116), silver drachm, (3.77 grams), Ecbatana mint, obv. medium size bust wearing a tiara with ear flaps, to left with stubby beard, tiara decorated with star and crescents, rev. archer seated right on throne represented as a cross, seven line inscription, monogram AT and dot, (S.5848, Sellwood 81.1, Shore 423). Good very fine and very scarce.
Ex. Spink & Son London auction, May 30, 1984 (lot 48). $$ A puppet ruler set up by Trajan. Shore believes these drachms were minted probably at Ktesiphon upon his 'coronation' by Trajan. The obverse dies were the product of Roman engravers.
