Septimius Severus, (A.D. 193-211), silver denarius, Emesa mint, issued A.D. 194, (3.344 grams), obv. laureate head of Septimius Severus to right, around IMP CAE L SP(sic) SEV PERT AVG COS II, rev. around TR P III IMP V COS **GI*, captive seated to right, head bowed forward, hands tied behind, bow, quiver and oval shields in front, (S.6366, RIC 433, RSC 659). Toned, good very fine and very rare, the obverse variation unpublished.
Ex Marc Melcher Collection. 2 examples in Reka Devnia Hoard of type, which contained 7256 Septimius Severus denarii.
