Ex.Ross Sutton Collection. Edgar Wesley Guy DFC, 77 Squadron. Enl.25Apr1942 Dis.29Apr1959. DFC. L.G.:02Dec1952. 'Flight Lieutenant Edgar Wesley Guy was a member of Number 77 (Interceptor/Fighter) Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force, Korea, from February 1952 until August 1952, and over the last three months of this period held the appointment of Flight Commander. On 27th August, 1952, Flight Lieutenant Guy led the Squadron in a rocket attack against an enemy Divisional Headquarters in North Korea. The Target, located in most difficult terrain, was heavily defended, and visability was reduced to a minimum due to adverse weather. By his daring and brilliant leadership, Flight Lieutenant Guy located the position, led the Squadron into attack, and completely destroyed the target. During his operational tour, Flight Lieutenant carried out 174 individual sorties, all of which were flown in Meteor Jet Fighter Aircraft, against the enemy installations, troop and supply areas and lines of communication. He personally led the Squadron on many of those attacks. Throughout his entire operational tour, Flight Lieutenant Guy consistently displayed personal courage, leadership and ability of a very high order, bringing great credit upon himself and the Royal Austraian Air Force'. U.S.A. Air Medal. 'Flight Lieutenant Wesley E.Guy distinguished himself by meritorious achievement while participating in aerial combat as a pilot of Meteor Mark Eight type aircraft, flying missions against the enemy in Lorea from 1 March 1952 to 14 March 1952. In the course of these missions, rocketing and strafing runs were made from dangerously low altitudes, destroying and damaging enemy installations and equipment. His aggressiveness and skill contributed greatly to the successful completion of these assigned missions. As a result of his valour, proficiency and devotion to duty on these occasions, he has reflected great credit upon himself, his comrades in arms of the United Nations and the Royal Australian Air Force'. Together with original citations and file of research, biographical details.
