MALAYSIA, Isthmian kingdom of Kalah, (8th - 10th century A.D.), silver paktong coins of eight ratti denomination, obv. 'Na', rev. cleft, (Mitchiner, History and Coinage of South East Asia 592-4 [p.173]). Very fine and rare. (5)

These coins are mostly found at Narhon Srithammarat and Suratthani in Southern Thailand. The 'rounded' form of 'Na' is a standard late Brahmi character of Indian origin and its use in Thailand has been established from the 6th century. Mitchiner believes its use on coinage commenced in the early 8th century.
