DIOCLETIAN, (A.D. 284-305), gold aureus, Rome mint, (4.74 grams), obv. laureate and cuirassed bust of Diocletian to right, IMP C C VAL DIOCLETIANVS PF AVG around, rev. Jupiter, cloak hanging from both shoulders, standing to left, holding thunderbolt in right hand and sceptre in left, around IOVI CONSER VAT AVGG, (RIC 134, C.216, K.Pink Die Goldpragung des Diocletianus und seiner Mitregenten (284-305), NZ 64 (1931), No.16). Extremely fine with mint bloom, and very rare.
