AUREUS ROME MINT (STRUCK 80 A.D.) Obv. Laureate head left Rev. TR P IX IMP XV COS VIII PP dolphin coiled around anchor (RIC 26;Sear -). Planchet flaw on reverse otherwise good extremely fine.

RIC suggests that the eruption of Mount Vesuvius prompted the issue of the 'supplication' coins showing the emblems of the gods; the dolphin and anchor would represent Neptune.
