GROUP OF EIGHT:- Military Cross (GVIR) 1945; Distinguished Conduct Medal (GVIR); 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Pacific Star; Defence Medal; British War Medal 1939-45 (M.I.D.); Austrlia Service Medal. Lieut G.E. Cory 2/3rd Bn 2nd A.I.F. MC unnamed, DCM impressed 'Duplicate' all others engraved. Very fine.

MC. L.G. 21 June 1945: For gallantry and distinguished service in action Lt. Cory was in command of a two Pl. attack on a heavily defended position on Long Ridge, Danmap Area, British New Guinea on 1 Feb. 45. After his forward scouts had reported the location and disposition of the enemy forces Lt. Cory made recce and manoevered his two pls. into a position for attack. Committing one Pl. to a frontal attack along a razor back feature he went inth the assault with the leading elements personally directing operations. By his brilliant handling of the pls. L. Cory completely disorganised the enemy defences, rapidly exploiting and consolidating on the capture ground. His men accounted for 33 knwon enemy dead. 6 LMG's and obtained valuable maps and documents. An enemy operation order was captured giving the intention of an enemy force to attack our poition, and identifying two new enemy formations in the vicinity. This information was of vital importance to our forces. Lt. Cory's sound tactical appreciation, daring and resourcefulness was mainly responsible for the entire sucess of the operation. DCM: L.G.: 4 February 1943: For gallantry and outstanding devotion to duty. During an attack on a strongly defended enemy position on the high ground to the west of Eora Creek Village on 28 Oct 42. Sjt. Cory showed exceptional courage and leadership under very heavy fire, whilst commanding 14 Pl. His pl. suffered heavy casualties in N.C.O's Sjt. Cory moved rapidly from section to section directing operations with complete disregard for his personal safety. He received a severe facial wound, and though temporarily blinded continued to direct the assault until evacuated. The great success achieved by his platoon was largely due to Sjt. Cory's personal effort and bravery exceeding heavy fire. M.I.D. L.G.: 30 December 1941 for Greece. The D.C.M., is in a cardboard box issued, with Queen's crown on the lid and the lot is sold with a letter from the Ministry of Defence DROITWICH, sending these awards to the recipient's son.
