ITALY, Lucania, Metapontum, (c.320-290 B.C.), silver stater, (7.80 grams), obv. head of Demeter to left, wearing pendant, some hair visible under chin, rev. corn ear, META to right, griffin to right above stalk on left, and **LU to left under stalk, (cf.S.416, Johnston [NN&M 164] Class C, 6.6, SNG Ash. 762, [same dies]). Very fine and scarce.
