ITALY, Lucania, Metapontum, (c.340-335 B.C.), silver stater or didrachm, (7.79 grams), obv. bearded head of Zeus to right, **D behind head, around traces of **ELEUQERIOS, rev. ear of corn, to right META, to left **[A]D below and crouching Silenus above, (S.417, Johnston [NN&M 164] Class A, 2.2, SNG Munich 988). Extensive die flaw in reverse and edge, otherwise very fine and very rare.
