SICILY, Gela, (c.490/85-480/75 B.C.), silver didrachm, (8.36 grams), obv. naked horseman wearing crested helmet, galloping to right, brandishing a spear, held in right hand, rev. forepart of man headed bull (the rivber god Gelas), to right with long beard, below **GELA S, (cf.S.713, Jenkins 98, obv. 30, rev. 53 [notes only 26 examples known from these dies], SNG Lockett 756 [same dies], SNG Munich 265 [same dies], SNG Oxford 1726 [same dies]). Off centred on the obverse, otherwise fine/very fine and rare.
