ITALY, Lucania, Metapontum, (c.335-330 B.C.), silver stater or didrachm, (7.8 grams), obv. bearded Corinthian helmeted head of Leukippos to right, behind dog seated to left paw raised, trace of monogram under chin, rev. ear of corn, to left MET[A], to right bird with open wings, A[MI] below, (cf.S.415, Johnston [NN&M 164] Class B, 3.18, cf.SNG Oxford 737). Nearly very fine and scarce.
