Lot 1593       Holey Dollars & Dumps

Estimate $28,000
Bid at live.noble.com.au

NEW SOUTH WALES, five shilliings or holey dollar, 1813, struck from a Charles IIII Mexico City Mint eight reales dated 1794 (dies B/9-II/1, not listed in Mira/Noble). Well struck countermarks, the H for Henshall weak as usual on this die, the eye of the king visible on the original matrix (coin) thus making this an attractive holey doller, lightly toned good fine, (the countermarks very fine) and rare, especially in this condition.

Bought privately from Spink & Son, London c.1972, and previously unrecorded.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
