ELIZABETH I, Dangers Averted Medal, 1590, oval 57 x 51 mms., silver, (85.2 grams), obv. facing bust of Queen Elizabeth crowned wearing a large ruff, holding orb and sceptre, surrounded by legend, re. central bay tree on island surrounded by rough seas with legend below, (MI i, 154/130; MH 1919, 19 similar; Eimer 62 similar; BBM 1988, 2). A superb example, extremely fine and extremely rare.

Ex. Surgeon H. Mitchell collection (Army Medical Staff, Grenadier Guards and Life Guards, died 1917), and Spink Auctions, London, Sale No.96, March 31, 1993 (lot 494).
