AUGUSTUS, (27 B.C. - A.D. 14), silver denarius, Rome mint, issued 16 B.C. by L. Mescinius Rufus, (3.62 grams), obv. laureate of Augustus to right in dotted circle, rev. L [MESCIN]I VS RVFVS around, Mars helmeted and cloaked, standing to left holding transverse spear, left hand holds a parazonium, standing on pedestal inscribed S P Q R / PR RE/ CAES in three lines, (S.-, RIC 351, C.463a, BMC 86). Weak in places, otherwise very fine/good fine and very rare.
