Fenton Collection (Sale 112B) Preface

Tuesday, 05 July 2016

We are pleased to present our special catalogue of the George Fenton Collection of Australian Commonwealth Coins. Every coin has been third-party graded by the Professional Coin Grading Service of the United States and individually lotted.  Each lot is illustrated by our images captured through the sealed holders.

The auction of the collection in such a manner gives all collectors an opportunity to acquire coins to improve or complete their collections, whether for the whole series, crowns to halfpennies, or just a section within one denomination.

We are honoured to have been selected by George to offer his award-winning collection at public auction. We are also indebted to Scott Waterman of the Universal Coin Company for introducing George to us and for providing the up-to-date population reports from PCGS.

Describing the coins adjectivally I was reminded how many we handled in our sales years ago and the collectors and dealers who purchased them. Wayne Borg sold his Commonwealth through Pacific Rim Online auctions some years ago and proprietor Chris Buesnell became the principal expert, providing new coins whenever possible for George. More recently, George took advantage to acquire some important pieces from the ‘Benchmark’ Collection, sold last year through Mark Duff of Strand Coins, Sydney and Paul Hannaford of International Auction Galleries. The Wayne Borg and ‘Benchmark’ collections are those for which provenances have been assigned in the footnotes to descriptions.

The catalogue you hold should provide a most accurate guide to current prices. It represents part B of Sale 112 and will be offered in a single session (the twelfth of the auction) on Wednesday evening at 7.30pm.

On behalf of the company I wish you every success in bidding and we look forward to extending every assistance throughout.
