The auction sale to be conducted at the State Library in Macquarie St Sydney on Tuesday 24th to Thursday 26th March 2015 covers a wide range of Australian material from Proclamation coins through gold to Australian Commonwealth and decimal issues to date.

The feature collection has been formed by John Saxton, a respected student of Australian coinage and a contributor to the CAB magazine. His collection includes two New South Wales holey dollars estimated at $35,000 and $30,000 respectively, a very fine fifteen pence or dump 1813 estimated at $15,000, a cracked die or first type Adelaide pound 1852 and two second type Adelaide pounds, 1852, Sydney Mint sovereigns and half sovereigns from 1855, and Australian Commonwealth from 1910.

The rarest piece in the collection is the milled edge pattern threepence of 1911, the only example known to the cataloguers in private hands.

It is estimated at $50,000 and it is near perfect condition. Another highlight is a 1916 Calcutta Mint halfpenny muled with the Indian quarter anna obverse die. It is a very fine example and is estimated at $60,000. An interesting modern rarity in the collection is a mule of the Fiji twenty cents reverse with the Australian twenty cent obverse of 1974. One of only two known it is estimated at $3,000.

Further Australian gold lots came from two other collections, one formed by the late Tony Baker includes all the Sydney Mint date sovereigns and half sovereigns except for the 1855 half sovereign, and most Imperial sovereigns and half sovereigns by year. The Baker Collection also includes banknotes and florins. The other collection formed by a Sydney collector active in the 1970s and early eighties includes star notes and a very fine or better 1930 penny.

In war related items there are choice examples of the Hay Internment Camp notes for two shillings and one shilling and at least three sets of copper tokens, five shillings to penny. The war medal section includes some important lots being offered just on the centenary of the Gallipoli campaign such as a bugle used by Pte. J.Darby, 19Bn with his diary, a DSO group to  Capt. A.H.K.Jopp the only Australian to fly over Gallipoli and a diary of a P.O.W captured by the Turks. There is also the life gold pass to Tivoli Theatres presented to Major E.T. Towner VC, MC.

In world coins a very rare Czechoslovakia gold two ducaty 1938 is expected to realise $10,000 or more.
